Oliver has a home!

Oliver

First of all, we would like to thank everyone who kindly donated to Diesel the rottie's appeal. You will all be delighted to know that Diesel is feeling much better now. At the time of writing this (8th Sep) Diesel is still looking for that very special home, but at least now he can go in the best of health. Once again, many thanks for your generous donations

Unfortunately, another poor soul needing your help came into our care this week. Please read little Oliver's story below:

I arrived at the kennel gate on Saturday, the man who brought me said he had found me on the motorway, but he didn't really 9 he just wanted me away because I'm quite a poorly wee lad. So, It's good that I was brought here and not just abandoned.

I have been in the vets since Saturday. I am really really hungry but can't keep my food down, so I have been referred to the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital in Edinburgh. Ena took me over today (Monday 8th Sep) and I have to stay in and have all sorts of tests to see if they can find out what is wrong with me, so we are all keeping our fingers and paws crossed that it is something that can be fixed.

I Will keep you updated on my progress

Oliver xx. (Morven, my vet at Equi Pet called me this because I was always hungry)

P.S. The pic is of me at the vet school with one of the lovely vets, she had to give me a cuddle because I wouldn't sit still!

Update 10th Sept: Well I am having my operation tomorrow and everyone is so worried about me as I'm such a baby I only weigh in at just over 3k. I am in the best of hands though. The vet who will be doing my op called Ena today to let her know how much roughly it would cost, which will be in the region of £1800.00, but she says no matter what I must be given every chance so hopefully I can to go on to live a long and happy life. Wish me well for my op and I will keep you updated

Update 26th September: Just a wee update on our Oliver, he was back at the Royal Dick Veterinary Hospital in Edinburgh yesterday 25th Sept, they are pleased with his progress and he now weighs in at 4k's. He is still being sick an odd time usually during the night, on the whole though he is acting like any normal puppy. The only thing is we can't leave any toys with him in case he chews them. He hasn't to go back for a month! We are a bit scared to get too optimistic at this early stage but all fingers and paws crossed for him.

Update 16th November: Hiya everyone it's Oliver here, just to say hello and let all you kind people who ask after me know how I am getting on. I am not as sick now and putting on weight and getting bigger every day. I am a cheeky wee monkey and just love to get out to play when visitors come to see me.
Love Oliver x

Update 9th January: And here they are at last! My very own Mum and Dad! Irene & Gavin have been visiting the kennels for ages and take all the dogs for walks. At last the girls have let me go, although it was very sad for them as we have been through a lot together, but they know I will be well looked after, and will visit often with my folks. I just want to thank everyone who donated to my cause and asked after me, I couldn't have been in my forever home without you.
Lots of Love Oliver xxx

UPDATE Oct 09:

Hi, it's me Oliver,

I have touched the hearts of so many people this last year, even when I'm out for a walk with my folks, people come up and ask "is this Oliver?"! Everyone has been so kind asking after me, so I hope you don't mind me giving you an update on my progress, just wish it was better news though xx

I've not been doing too well lately, been back and forward at the vets as I was being sick quite a lot. I managed to reach 11-2 kilos but have dropped right down to about 10 kilos.

I gave everyone quite a scare the other week, I was running about then all of a sudden I collapsed and couldn't breathe. I was rushed to the vets and recovered from that thankfully.

Mum, Dad, Ena, Frank and Mhairi are quite worried about me, so we asked for a referral back to the Dick Veterinary college to try and find out what the problem was.

I had a video x-ray done and it seems my oesophagus isn't working now, meaning the food is getting trapped and it is pressing against my windpipe, hence the reason my bark is almost non exsistent and why I get so breathless. It seems it is really quite serious and I have to go in on Monday (19th Oct) to have an operation to have a tube fixed into my tummy and I will get fed by a syringe into this tube and the food will go straight into my tummy and I will hopefully never be hungry again. Professor Simpson who attended to me says he has being doing this op for fifteen years with great success.

Everyone is really sad for me as I have been through so much since the day I was handed into Second Chance and would like you to have me in your prayers, wishing me well.

I have so much to get better for as my mum and dad just love me to bits, we have so many things to see and do and I hate to see them so worried. Also Grandma Ena, Grandad Frank and Auntie Mhairi all love me like their own.

The first pic is of me at the Dick Vets Sept 2008 when I was about 4 months old and weighing only 3 kilos, and then there's me on my very first walk after my op in 2008, and then me playing with a toy, life is such fun!
