Joyce's visit >>
Posted: Sat 9th July, 2011
Thanks again for today. I’m not sure who enjoyed it most, Joyce or me! I have sent the attached photo to the Fife Free Press, Central Fife Times and Dundee Courier. Hopefully they will feature it for us.
This was the story that I sent with it. I will be putting the article on our website as well so I will send you the link once it’s live.

Second Chance Kennels in Thornton very kindly helped grant a wish for one of Kingdom Homes residents. Joyce Hunter who lives at Kingdom Homes’ Fernlea House in Cardenden posted her wish in the Residents Wishing Well to visit kennels as she is very fond of dogs. When the home contacted Second Chance, Ena Conyon had no hesitation in agreeing to help and Joyce spent a lovely afternoon with some of the dogs currently being cared for at the kennels.
Pictured left to right are Ena and Tara the Yorkshire Terrier, Joyce and Elaine Allan from Kingdom Homes.

Sarah Duff and Sophie Beaton from Dalgety Bay did a sponsored cycle run in the Bay. The girls did two laps of the village, wee souls on their 2nd lap were getting tired and it was bitterly cold and very windy but they thought of the dogs they were helping and soldiered on to the finish. To raise £200-00 pounds for Second Chance, very well done to the girls and to the Dad who cycled round with them. The two wee ones in the middle did their bit by helping their Mums who made the cakes. To everyone who came out to cheer the girls on, thank you all so much.It really is greatly appreciated.

This is one of our residents meeting the children, Rocky a Deerhound cross who I have to say loved the attention.

Oliver >>

Most people who know about Second Chance will know all about Oliver .

This is " Our " Oliver setting of for another new adventure bless him. His folks Irene & Gavin have moved away from Dunfermline.

So we won't have Oliver during the days when they were working, he will be a big miss at the kennels as he was very much part of Second Chance and has gone through so much.It will be two years on the 6th Sept since Oliver a very special wee lad was handed in at the gate about 4 months old and only weighing 3 Kilos a poor wee scrap who was sick every itme he ate anything. In all the following ops. ect: at the Dick Vets he never ever complained. He now gets fed through a tube in his side, and has come on leaps and bounds weighing in now at about 12 1/2 Kilos. So it won't be the same without him. However we are happy in the knowledge that he and his family will have lots more time to spend together. He has promised to bring his folks to visit often. Good luck Oliver not that you'll need it.you just take everything in yor stride and we hope Pete your new daytime carer loves you as much as we do, well he'll have no choice because you wind yourself round everyone's heart.
Lots of love from Grannie Ena Grandad Frank xxxxxx Auntie Mhairi and Uncle Kevan and all who knew you here.xxxxxx

A massive thank you to Kate & friends >>
Posted: Tue 17th March, 2009
Oh wow! Well done and we look forward to seeing you at the weekend and will try and have Hob Nob here so the boys can meet him. Brilliant photo's Kate.

Hi Ena,

Success . . . we (40 of us- that's 7 dogs, 19 kids & 14 Mums and Dads) did our walk up Scolty Hill, Banchory, on Saturday. As you can see from the fly-away hair styles it was rather windy at the top! The kids are all collecting their sponsorship money this week so hope to get total to you at the weekend.

We are going to try and come down to the kennels on Saturday (with Gypsy too) so are you likely to be there, and when is a good time?

If you have any dogs to pet / play with Alex and Harry would love to help entertain them!!

Is Hobnob in foster care or at the kennels, if he's about we'd love to say hello!??!

Hope to see you soon

Kate

Michael with Bailey >>

This young man Michael came along to the kennels today with his Dad, he saw a bit in the papers about the dogs, so he made a doggy poster and sold it and raised £10-00 pounds for the kennels. What a guy thinking of others instead of himself, these young men are going to grow up into very thoughtful young men and I hope they never change.Thank you so much Michael xx

Kyle & Keir >>

This is Kyle & Keir Anderson who came up and donated their pocket money to help Hobnob, how lovely was that. So many children would have wanted to get a new game for their play station ect: Thank you very much boys we really appreciate it.

There was also another lovely young lad who came up with his Mum, it had been his Mum's birthday and he made her a card and put his pocket money in it and asked her to donate it to Hobnob. Sadly I didn't get his photo.

These young lads are going to grow up into lovely young men, when they are as thoughtful as this at their age just now, their folks should be really proud of them.

The Diary of Oliver >>
Posted: Thu 8th January, 2009
Hiya everyone it's Oliver here, just to say hello and let all you kind people who ask after me know how I am getting on.I am not as sick now and putting on weight and getting bigger every day.I am a cheeky wee monkey and just love to get out to play when visitors come to see me.
Love Oliver x

Update 2nd December:

This picture was just taken on Saturday past, don't you think I've grown, I'm getting a big boy now. Go to see the doc on Thursday only thing is I have to stay in overnight and will be having an x-ray video taken to see how I am progressing. Just hope the girls remember to take my dinners with them.
Love Oliver xx

Update 4th December:
Whoohoo went to see my aunties & uncles at the Dick Veterinary college and guess what I now weigh a whopping 8.9 k..yipee!! The vets were very pleased with my progress and say I don't need the x-ray and don't need to go back unless the girls are worried about me in anyway. I think the only worry they will have is will they still be able to lift me. Ena & Mhairi were so excited and pleased that I was doing so well they took me to Pets at Home and bought me a new indestructible toy. I need toys that I can't chew bits off, you see.
lots of love
Oliver xx

Update 13th Dec: Well our Oliver is doing well, he has now graduated to dried puppy food and he has some tuna through it, albeit we soften it for him. We improvise for him by putting loads of dishes on to a high stand and as you can see he manages fine.

21st Dec: Hiya it's me Oliver with a wee update, I am doing really well down to three feeds a day which I eat all by myself. Guess what I was so excited, I got to go out into the yard in the front of the kennels and had great fun played with two wee boys. And wait for it I must be getting a big boy now 'cause I lifted my leg for the first time. Then it was time for me to go in for a rest, not likely it took ages for them to catch me hehehe. Well, I am going away for a nap just now speak to you all later. Lots of love Oliver xxx

Ps: don't you think I'm getting big !! The girl's say there is devilment staring out of my eyes, as if !

Update 8th January:
Hi everyone well I had a really exciting day today. I went for my first walk sporting a lovely yellow harness, and I met a thing called a tractor it was really big and made a lot of noise, but I wasn't too scared at all, there were lots of lovely smells and I thoroughly enjoyed it.I only went for a wee walk as it as my first time out after my op.I have lots of things to get used to as I have been in here for about four months now and it was just great to get out and about. I ate all my tea when I came in. Gavin is coming to take me for a walk tomorrow I think, so that will be another walk with someone different. Although I know Gavin and his wife Irene really well.

Update 9th January:

And here they are at least my dad, mum will get her photo taken tomorrow with me. Irene & Gavin have been visiting the kennels for ages and take all the dogs for walks. At last the girls have let me go although it was very sad for them as we have been through a lot together, but they know I will be well looked after, and will visit often with my folks. Lots of love Oliver xxx.

Me getting ready to go home with my dad, just need to wait till Ena & Mhairi get their hankies xx

Race Night Raises £500 + Good News for the Kennels >>
Posted: Sun 4th March, 2007
This is John & June with their lovely papillon boys.

They had a race night in their home last August, thanks go to all their friends & neighbours who went along and supported them and had a great night by all accounts. The fantastic sum of £500 was raised and donated to us at Second Chance.

When June and John came along with the money we had a wee Bichon Frise puppy, who had been brought in by her owner to be rehomed. June was in love but as they didn't come looking for a puppy they went away home and obviously thought about Meg but were back before we shut! John said on a scale of 1 - 10 how sure were you we would come back and of course it was a 10!!

Home visit was done and wee Meg, who had quite an allergy to fleas so was missing some hair, went to the best home we could ever have found for her.

This is late being posted as Meg's owner who signed the wee soul over to us wasn't happy where we rehomed her and took us to the small claims court in February. We are highly delighted to say with help and support from James, June & John and a few other people WE WON!!!!

The 2nd pic is of Meg when she arrived at the kennels.

BARK in the PARK

As some of you may know, BARK in the PARK was held at Lochore Meadows on Sunday 30th July. Well, the months of preparation and hard work was definitely worth it, it was more successful than we could have ever imagined!

The sun was shining, the atmosphere was buzzing and we got to meet lots of former Second Chance dogs. It was great to see lots of familiar faces and new ones alike.

We would like to thank everyone who made the day as fun and successful as it was, that includes organisers, volunteers, visitors (human and dog!), and anyone else who took part!! Your help, support and generosity is very much appreciated.

P.S we will be updating the website with photos from the event soon, so keep and eye out!
Buy a Brick and help build our isolation kennels >>
Posted: Thu 20th July, 2006
We are currently in the process of building a new isolation block at the kennels. This will be for all those dogs who come in sick or injured or who can't mix with the other homeless hounds for whatever reason. Now we need the materials to build with, and that's where you come in!

We're asking all our website visitors and supporters of our work at the kennels to 'Buy a Brick'. They are only £1.00 each and you can buy as many as you like. We will keep everyone updated on the prgress of the build, so you can see where you're much appreciated donations are going to use.

See our Buy a Brick page for more information or simply click the button below to get started:

Thank You to HBOS Dunfermline! >>

This is John McKinstray, a bank manager with HBOS Dunfermline, who along with some colleagues, have very kindly donated a cheque for £1000.00 to the kennels. This is greatly appreciated and will go a long way to help with the general running of the kennels and also to help us help Chance on the road to recovery. Chance who is a Rottweiler mix who needs to be on special medication for the next few months as he came into us in such a terrible state poor soul. He never once complains he is such a sweetheart. His coat ears eyes were all in a chronic state, but with lots of TLC which he will get in abundance and his medication I'm sure we will see a different dog in a few months.

So, thanks once again to everyone involved!

P.S. John, I don't normally do photographs, the web designer has been trying to get me on here for a long time!

Broxi the Rottie >>
Posted: Sat 19th March, 2005
Broxi the rottie arrived at the kennels in January with serious hip problems. A visit to the vet confirmed that he would need am operation to fix the problem.
Well, on the 1st of March, he had his operation and all went very well! It will be a while before he is back on all 4 paws, but he is handling it very well. He is a star!
We would also like to thank a very kind lady who gave an extremely generous donation of £1000, which will help very much in covering the cost of Broxi's operation.
